Disneyland France
After realising the success of the first Disneyland theme park, plans to build a European version first started around 1975, which was nine years after Walt Disney past away. The first issue was choosing a location from either Britain, Italy, Spain or France, which were all considered as possible locations, Britain and Italy were soon after removed from the list because they both lacked a reasonably large area of flat land.
The French location won after a brief period of searching, and a site was
duly investigated at Marne-la-Vallee, partly because of it is fairly close
to Paris, and central positioning within Western Europe, which will be largely
beneficial for travelling. A crucial factor to the parks success was to
attract sufficient visitors. The proposed location put the park within 4-hours
drive for around 68 million people, and 2 hours flight for a further 300
million or so.
